Spring walk in Erimitis
With beautiful weather and lovely company (the Clapperton family), I had a walk in blossoming Erimitis yesterday. As we walked, we were listening to birds and bees and we were lucky enough to spot two grass snakes as well as several turtles. Grass or water snake is harmless and is often found in or near water and sometimes even basking on the rocks. It feeds on small amphibians and lizards and when it feels threatened it secretes a foul-smelling substance and, very theatrically, pretends to be dead by turning its body over on its back, opening its mouth and sticking out its tongue.
