The ecological balance and the growth dynamics that has been developed in the wider region of northwestern Corfu, on the basis of sustainability and environmental protection, is overturned by the devastating choices of the irrational Greek state (central governments), under the pressure of the country’s lenders to increase GDP at all costs.
Investment plans have been put forward for the area that include large-scale facilities (housing and city-scale constructions and infrastructure), that are way beyond and contrary to the character and the landscape of the area. These will have enormous and irreparable impacts on the natural landscape and the ecosystem.
These plans result from the pressures to generate state revenue at any cost, in order to repay national debt. Therefore, since 2012 central governments have been promoting investment plans, which circumvent and infringe the legal regime derived from Greek, European and international conventions and directives that should apply in protection of various aspects of the area of Erimitis.
Benefits will only be harnessed by:
a) the company that will construct and sell the holiday houses (NCH Capital)
b) the Ministry of Finance of Greece, which will collect the fee in order to pay back national debt.
c) the board members of H.R.A.D.F., who may receive a bonus for the sellout.
