From an economic and development point of view, Erimitis as it stands is an invaluable and irreplaceable natural resource, as well as a resource for sustainable development. Being one of the few areas that still retain their original character (virgin landscape and ecosystem of unique beauty), it constitutes a comparative advantage for development not only for northeastern Corfu, but for the whole island. The large number of regular and quality visitors in the area prove this every year.
The region of northeastern Corfu with its history, with the ecosystem of the Erimitis and its unparalleled natural environment is a pole of attraction of mild but high value economic activities on the basis of small scale quality tourism development. Investments have been taking place in the surrounding areas focused on mild and qualitative infrastructure that does not destroy natural resources and the local character; on the contrary they protect and renew them, keeping the natural environment unaffected, sometimes upgraded, in harmony with human activities, while adding value to the area.
With this development model the region has managed to maintain its traditional and natural identity, attract high-level tourism for decades, having no unemployment, while also providing employment to citizens from other areas of the island.
